Meet the Student: Savannah Zimmerman - "For me, It's Not Radiology. It's Construction."
The story of Savannah Zimmerman
Growing up, I worked with my parents flipping houses.
My parents bought an old farm house that we remodeled and I always loved helping with that.
While I was in high school, I took every “tech” class offered to me. From wood shop to wielding to electrical.
When thinking about college, there were many options for me. I had several different ideas of what I wanted to do.
I found radiology and thought it was going to be perfect for me. I wanted to do radiation therapy and work with cancer patients.
When I got to Penn College in the Fall of 2019, within the first 3 weeks I immediately knew it wasn’t going to be the path me.
When I came to the conclusion that I definitely needed something else to go into, I started to look at my options and my interests.
I started to consider how much I loved working with my parents flipping houses and working on our old farm house remodel.
So I decided to visit the career services at Penn College. I figured I want to go into something more hands on like construction management.
Based on everything I tested for, it would be perfect fit. I talked to my parents and my old high school tech class teachers and made the decision to switch.
Within this semester, I have found something I’ve fallen in love with, I love going to my classes and I really enjoy working in them.
For myself, it was always a big interest of mine. I’m a very hands on person and I've come to find that I love every minute of it. I’m learning and growing more and more everyday.
Thinking about it more now, I feel like I am one of those examples and students that realized that there isn't only one path to creating a successful career.
I'm excited about what my future has in store. And it helps that I really love the path I've chosen.
For me, I really like is that the construction industry is always changing. It's a different scenery with different projects everyday.
To be improving and learning something new everyday will always keep me interested and motivated develop myself in this industry.
I know there are many young people out there that think there is only path to career. I hope that by sharing my story I can show that the better choice to truly find a career that you'll love.
"For me, it's not radiology. It's construction. And I absolutely love it."
